Keeping Ourself Safe

K.O.S

In Term 4 Week 1-3, we’ve been learning K.O.S (keeping ourself safe). K.O.S is basically a session where you learn to keep yourself safe.

If someone is touching you and you don’t like it, give them a big solid STOP!  And make sure that stop is loud too, so he or she sinks the message.

K.O.S also teaches you how to S.T.A.R, when you see someone getting hurt you have to: Stop, Think, Act and Report.

K.O.S has taught me NOT to talk to strangers, NOT to get in strangers cars, NOT to be silly online and to understand that it might be people you know!

The Black Widow Spider

The Black Widow Spider

How deadly do you think the ‘Black Widow Spider’ is?

Whakaahua-Describing

The scientific name for the black widow spider is ‘Latrodectus’. Some black widows have black bodies with a little bit of red on the stomach and it’s back, some people recognize them as the ‘Southern Black Widow’. The Latrodectus can grow up to 3.8 cms long.

Whare-House
The Latrodectus prefers a dry and dark location, and will seek look for food in winter.

KauKau-Webs/Taonga-Prey

It also doesn’t make the prettiest webs, instead it will spin thick jumble looking cobwebs, but they use their webs to catch their prey, like wasps and small birds.

Waipiro-Venom

According to National Geographic, the Black Widow spiders are considered the most venomous spider in North America. The Latrodectus is as poisonous as a Black Mamba (Most highly VENOMOUS snake). It’s 15 times stronger than rattlesnakes.

Kairangi-Predator

Some birds think that the black widow spider is harmless, so the birds will eat it, but after a while the bird’s stomach will be upset from the spider’s venom, and the bird can get poisoned and die.

Tuhinga-Synopsis

So, how deadly do you think the ‘Latrodectus’ is?

Fractions

⅗ of 30 = 18
30 divided the bottom number (5)= 6
And then we get the 6 from the previous answer and  times it with the top number (3)= 18

Same Here
⅞ of 40 = 35
40 divided the bottom number (8)= 5
And once again 5 times the top number (7)= 35

4/6 of 42 = 28
42 divided 6 = 7
7 times 4 = 28

⅔ of 33 = 22
33 divided 3 = 11
11 times 2 = 22

3/10 of 100 = 30
100 divided 10 = 10
10 times 3 = 30

⅜ of 128 = 48
128 divided 8 = 16

16 times 3 = 48

Cross Country Reflection

Today (24th August 2017) was the Hamilton East School Cross Country.
My whole class had to set a goal, achieve the goal that I/we set and then reflect on our goal, if we achieved it or if we didn't.

My goal was to keep at a jogging pace the whole time, non stop. But I didn't achieve that so next time I might keep my head up and try it again.

Zahaad's goal was not to run at the start and not run fast. He didn't achieve his goal so he will do the same goal next year.

We both hate Cross Country because it makes you exhausted and nervous, I'm pretty sure 96% of the school hate Cross Country and 4% of people hate it!

Octopus V Dogfish Shark

Octopus V. Dogfish Shark

Have you ever seen anyone put an Octopus inside the same Aquarium tank as a Dogfish Shark?

The Octopus dashed into a hiding spot as fast as light to hide from the deadly shark. The Octopus had time to camouflage before the shark has sawn swam, past.

Soon enough everybody got bored but the Octopus just sucked onto the shark out of nowhere and started to cover the shark’s gills so the shark couldn’t breath, A minute later the shark had suffocated.

So, Would you put an Octopus inside the same Aquarium tanl tank as a Dogfish Shark?

Kaitiakitanga Peachgrove Show

Kaitiakitanga

Amon’s favourite part was when Ollie said kaitiakitanga wrong because Amon said it was so funny that he stopped laughing when they got to the koros house. My favourite part was when Hawiki walked onto the stage then finished with a PUKANA! We saw a number of people we knew that came to this school.
